At the 'Brit Awards' ceremony held on the 11th (local time) at the O2 Arena in London, UK, BTS was nominated in the International Group category but did not win. The award went to the three-member sister band Haim. Other competitors in this category included rock band Foo Fighters, hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, and punk band Fontaines D.C.
Started in 1977, the Brit Awards is an award ceremony hosted by the British Phonographic Industry. Nominees are selected through votes by a panel consisting of over 1,000 radio and TV DJs and hosts, broadcasting executives, record company representatives, and journalists.
Since the late 1980s, the International category was introduced to honor artists active in various countries. However, last year, the International Group category was suddenly removed, sparking protests from BTS fans. This year, the International Group category was reinstated, and with BTS nominated, expectations were high. Fans expressed their disappointment on social media (SNS) after BTS failed to win.
