Changwon City Updates~Accelerating Inclusion of Bukmyeon National Road No. 79 Expansion in National Plan
Contributing to Traffic Congestion Relief and Regional Economic Revitalization in Bukmyeon Area
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam is accelerating efforts to reflect the expansion project of National Road No. 79 from Dongjeong to Bukmyeon.
To promote the expansion project of National Road No. 79, the city requested its inclusion in the national road plan in December 2017, and as a result, it was selected last January as a target for the 5th National and Local Road 5-Year Plan comprehensive preliminary feasibility study.
Since May 7 last year, the city has been focusing administrative efforts on holding multiple meetings and collecting and submitting materials to pass the preliminary feasibility study with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Institute of Public Finance.
The "National Road No. 79 Dongjeong~Bukmyeon Expansion Project" is a project to expand the 7.92 km section from Dongjeong-dong, Uichang-gu to Sinchon-ri, Bukmyeon from the current 4 lanes to 6 lanes.
This is expected to play a significant role not only in improving traffic convenience for residents in the Bukmyeon area but also in reducing logistics transportation costs for Dongjeon General Industrial Complex and revitalizing the local economy due to the increase in tourists to Magumsan Hot Springs.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, "The expansion of National Road No. 79 from Dongjeong to Bukmyeon is a necessary project not only to alleviate traffic congestion in the Bukmyeon area but also to revitalize the local economy," adding, "We will do our best to achieve the results citizens want until the end through consultations with the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee."
