On the same day, Governor Kim visited the site of Korea Energy Engineering University with Party Leader Song, who was visiting Bitgaram Innovation City in Naju.
Governor Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, “In March, the enactment of the ‘Korea Energy Engineering University Act’ was greatly supported by the party, enabling the establishment of a world-class energy engineering university,” and added, “I ask for full support and interest from the party to help Korea Energy Engineering University grow into a world TOP 10 engineering university.”
He also requested, “Regarding the creation of an industry-academia-research cluster to leap forward as a global energy industry hub like Silicon Valley in the United States, please form a government-level joint task force involving the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, central government agencies, local governments, and KEPCO.”
He emphasized, “To foster national advanced science and technology and establish a foundation for basic research, the establishment of national large-scale research facilities such as the Ultra-High Power Laser Center and the Artificial Sun Engineering Research Institute must be reflected in the national plan.”
In particular, to ensure the success of the government’s Green New Deal leading project, the 8.2GW offshore wind power project, he strongly proposed the enactment of the ‘Special Act on the Promotion of Wind Power Generation’ and the passage of the amendment to the ‘Electricity Business Act.’
Additionally, he requested active party-level support on important issues such as ▲ the enactment of the ‘Yeosu-Suncheon October 19 Incident Special Act,’ ▲ the establishment of a national medical school in Jeonnam, ▲ hosting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), ▲ commencement of construction of Heuksan Airport within the year, ▲ improvement of local fiscal decentralization, and ▲ introduction of the Hometown Love Donation System.
In response, Party Leader Song said, “We will actively support Korea Energy Engineering University to grow into a world TOP 10 engineering university,” and added, “The establishment of an international school is necessary to attract global companies and scholars.”
