[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party will simultaneously visit Gwangju on the same day.
The Democratic Party aims to defend its stronghold to recover from the pain of the April 7 by-election defeat, while the People Power Party appears to be taking a more proactive approach to targeting the Honam region.
According to local political circles on the 6th, Song Young-gil, the new leader of the Democratic Party, along with the Supreme Council members and other leadership, will pay respects at the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery on the morning of the 7th.
Following this, the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party will hold an on-site Supreme Council meeting. This is the first Supreme Council meeting held in the region since the new leadership took office.
Afterwards, Party Leader Song has scheduled events related to the relocation of the military airport and the Korea Electric Power Corporation University (KEPCO University).
Kim Ki-hyun, acting leader of the People Power Party, also chose Gwangju as his first regional visit focused on public welfare.
He will be accompanied by key party officials including Lee Jong-bae, Chairman of the Policy Committee; Sung Il-jong, Emergency Committee member; Jeong Yang-seok, Secretary-General; Jeong Un-cheon, Chairman of the National Integration Committee; Choo Kyung-ho, Chief Deputy Floor Leader; other deputy floor leaders; and Honam region parliamentarians Lee Chae-ik and Bae Hyun-jin.
