Hannam University Professors Hong Sang-eun and Choi Jae-young Awarded 600 Million Won Research Grant

View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Hannam University announced on the 4th that Hong Sang-eun (33), a research professor in the Department of Chemistry, was selected for the Korea Research Foundation's ‘Creative and Challenging Research’ program, and Choi Jae-young (35), a research professor, was selected for the ‘Sejong Science Fellowship,’ receiving a total of 600 million KRW in research funding over three years.
According to the selection results, Professor Hong will receive 210 million KRW over the next three years to conduct research developing new therapeutic strategies for lysosomal storage diseases (rare and intractable diseases such as Fabry disease and Huntington's disease).
Currently conducting research on the regulation of intracellular organelle functions and safety evaluation of functional ultrafine nanoparticles, Professor Hong also earned the honor of receiving the Minister of Science and Technology Award (Grand Prize) last year at the ‘2020 X-Corps Festival (Field-customized Science and Engineering Talent Festival)’ for his research on a hemostatic system that rapidly stops excessive bleeding.
Professor Choi plans to conduct research under the theme ‘Development and Application of AF4 Characterization Method for Stability Evaluation of Therapeutic Proteins in Blood: A Challenge Toward Personalized Medicine,’ receiving 390 million KRW in research funding over three years.
The Sejong Science Fellowship supports university and research institute researchers (PhDs) within seven years of obtaining their doctorate or under the age of 39. The program aims to help young and outstanding scientists perform stable research and grow and settle as core scientific and technological talents.

Previously, Professor Choi received the ‘Leco Young Analytical Scientist Award’ from the Korean Society for Analytical Science in 2016. This award is given to young scientists under the age of 45 who demonstrate academic creativity and potential.
