Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease mainly occurs in adults aged 40 and over. It is a disease in which the bronchi or lung tissues, which were previously normal, gradually deform, leading to decreased lung function, reduced exercise capacity, breathing difficulties, and in severe cases, death.
In particular, COPD was the third leading cause of death worldwide in 2019. In South Korea, it ranked ninth among causes of death.
HIRA has been conducting adequacy evaluations since 2014 to improve the quality of management for patients with COPD.
This evaluation targeted outpatients aged 40 and over who visited hospitals for COPD from May 2019 to April of last year.
The main evaluation indicators were ▲the rate of pulmonary function tests performed ▲the proportion of patients with continuous visits ▲the proportion of patients prescribed inhaled bronchodilators.
Chosun University Hospital scored 90.4 points overall, far exceeding the average score of 66.6 points, earning Grade 1.
