According to Jindo County on the 3rd, this year marked the 42nd Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival, which was fully converted to an online event due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and was held from the 27th to the 29th of last month.
Through active promotional activities on SNS platforms such as YouTube live streaming, Facebook, and Instagram, the festival heated up by widely promoting Jindo County’s tourist attractions, cultural arts, and agricultural and marine specialties.
Live broadcasts of traditional cultural and artistic performances preserved by the treasure island Jindo County, including drone footage of the Mysterious Sea Road site, the Bong Grandmother ritual, and Jindo Buknori (drum play), captivated viewers’ attention.
In particular, the online festival was a success, recording 4,821 simultaneous viewers during the festival period, 2,896 cumulative chat comments, and a total of 120,000 views.
The vivid live broadcast of the Mysterious Sea Road splitting scene received great response, making its popularity palpable.
YouTube live broadcasts were streamed daily during the festival, with up to about 4,000 viewers enjoying the natural scenery such as the Jindo County Mysterious Sea Road splitting phenomenon and unique cultural and artistic performances.
Additionally, events such as ‘I Came Too~ Mysterious Sea Road Festival Memory Recall Certification Shot,’ ‘Challenge! Online Quiz Passion,’ and ‘Singing Along with Jindo-born Singer Song Ga-in’ also received great responses.
A Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival official said, “We gained great experience and know-how in hosting an online festival,” and added, “Since this was our first attempt at an online festival, we will devote great effort to post-event evaluations and plan to prepare even more substantial festivals in the future.”
