A Budget of 8.5 Billion Won Invested to Build a 2-Basement, 7-Story Building in Sangbong-dong... Opening Ceremony with Local Residents on May 4 at 3 PM, a Day Before Children's Day... 'One-Stop Education' Offering Youth Growth, Career and College Admission Programs, and Parent Programs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The 'Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center,' which Ryoo Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, has been promoting since his inauguration, is finally opening.
On the 4th at 3 p.m., Jungnang-gu will hold an opening ceremony for the ‘Jungnang-gu Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center (325 Mangu-ro),’ which will serve as a landmark for education in Jungnang-gu based on the educational philosophy of Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan.
The center, which began construction in December 2019, is now about to open after 1 year and 5 months of construction. With a total budget of 8.5 billion KRW, it is the first education support center in Jungnang-gu, located in Sangbong-dong, with 2 basement floors and 7 above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 1,813㎡, the highest level among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
Looking inside the center, the first basement floor is designed as a makerspace (digital design experience), one-person broadcasting room (creator experience), robot education room, and multi-room (coding and other 4th industrial revolution programs) so that youth can freely develop their talents and dreams in the era of the 4th industrial revolution.
The above-ground floors are arranged as learning support spaces and resting areas. The 2nd floor houses a book cafe and rest area, the 3rd floor includes a learning counseling room and education welfare center, the 4th floor is a self-directed learning room, and the 5th floor contains program rooms.
Additionally, the 6th floor features an outdoor garden as a healing space to relax, and the 7th floor has a multipurpose room for large-scale educational events such as special lectures and entrance exam briefings, creating a diverse environment that will provide practical and direct support for career guidance and academic advancement.
The center will offer school-linked programs supporting students, career and academic advancement programs, as well as programs for parents such as capacity building, humanities and culture, child guidance, and open university courses, supplementing areas that schools have difficulty covering.
In particular, through regular management by university student mentors and education experts across school life and student activities, the center will provide direction for local students’ career planning and help improve learning abilities. It will also offer online counseling and education to prepare for situations where face-to-face sessions are difficult.
Ryoo Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I sincerely thank the bereaved families who allowed us to use the name to carry on the will of Bang Jeong-hwan so that children and youth can freely pursue their dreams and hopes. We will operate the center as a learning base for local students and parents and devote all our efforts to creating an educational city where learning, which used to take place only in classrooms, expands to homes and communities.”
The Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center, embodying Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan’s wish to “raise children well together for hope and tomorrow,” was established to serve as a control tower for education in Jungnang-gu, reflecting residents’ aspirations for improved educational environments and preparing for changes in external educational environments such as the ever-changing college entrance system and the introduction of the free semester system.
