8 Leading Painters from Daegu to Exhibit 'Masterpieces'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Twenty-one masterpieces by renowned Korean artists from the Daegu region, among the private collection of the late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee, will be exhibited at the Daegu Art Museum.
The works donated by the Samsung family include Lee In-sung's representative piece
The collection consists of 21 works by eight artists: Lee In-sung (7 pieces), Lee Quade (1 piece), Kim Jong-young (1 piece), Moon Hak-jin (2 pieces), Byun Jong-ha (2 pieces), Seo Dong-jin (1 piece), Seo Jin-dal (2 pieces), and Yoo Young-guk (5 pieces).
In the 1920s, when modern art began to take root, Daegu, along with Gyeongseong (Seoul) and Pyongyang, played a pivotal role in establishing the foundation of Korean modern art through the activities of artists such as Lee In-sung and Lee Quade.
Since its opening, the Daegu Art Museum has been actively collecting over 500 works of modern art, including six pieces by Lee In-sung and five by Seo Dong-jin. This donation from the Samsung family is expected to mark a significant leap forward.
The Daegu city government plans to conduct in-depth research on the donated artists and works and prepare a dedicated exhibition space. Through this, they aim to provide citizens with the opportunity to appreciate these masterpieces in the second half of this year and are also considering establishing a permanent donation room in honor of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee in the future.
