Oh Se-hoon: "Raising Labor Welfare is the Value of Fairness and Coexistence"
Revealed Through His Facebook... Visited the Jamwol Accident Site at Jangwi-dong Demolition Site Yesterday Afternoon
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated on the 1st, Labor Day, that creating stronger safety nets for workers who perform dangerous and difficult tasks is coexistence, and raising labor welfare is the value of fairness and mutual growth, in response to the burial accident at the demolition site in Jangwi-dong.
On that day, Mayor Oh wrote on his Facebook that there was an accident where a worker was buried at the demolition site in Jangwi-dong the previous day, saying, "The Jangwi-dong accident that occurred a day before Labor Day makes us think deeply."
He added, "There should be no more precious lives lost while working in environments without safety devices," emphasizing, "In just last year alone, 882 people lost their lives at work, about two to three people per day. This indicates that the blind spots in legal and institutional safety nets continue to be a problem."
Mayor Oh visited the accident site in Jangwi-dong at around 7:10 p.m. the previous day to check the accident response process. Due to this accident, one worker fell to the third basement level and was buried.
Mayor Oh began by saying that coexistence and mutual growth are nothing special, then mentioned issues concerning cleaning workers, conflicts between delivery workers and apartment complexes.
He said, "It is fairness to create stronger safety nets for workers who perform dangerous and difficult tasks, and it is mutual growth for society to strive so that these workers do not suffer more losses," adding, "Improving the working environment for cleaning workers is fairness, and resolving disputes between delivery workers and apartments is mutual growth."
