Changwon City Seeks Appropriate Toll Solution for Jigae~Namsan Route Through Communication
Changwon City Public Deliberation Committee Holds First Communication Council Meeting
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Changwon Public Deliberation Committee held its first meeting to determine an appropriate toll fee for the Jigae~Namsan private road.
At the meeting, Lee Sangmin, a resident representative from Buk-myeon Gamgye Development Committee, stated, "Subsidies were provided for the Palyong Tunnel and the Machang Bridge, but the Jigae~Namsan road received no financial support, resulting in high toll fees. Developing Buk-myeon as a new town without establishing proper infrastructure and then passing the public road usage fees onto residents is unfair," urging for a toll reduction.
Seo Jeonguk, chairman of the Masanhappo-gu Residents' Autonomy Association, emphasized, "As a citizen using the Machang Bridge, the issue of unreasonable toll fees on private roads is not limited to the Jigae~Namsan road. We must find a solution before opening to avoid repeating the Machang Bridge precedent."
Lee Jongwook, Executive Director of Jigae Namsan Expressway Co., Ltd., representing the operator, explained, "While many private roads receive subsidies from the competent authorities, the Jigae~Namsan road did not receive any. Since the company must recover its investment, reducing toll fees before opening poses a significant risk. Therefore, at this time, we have no choice but to calculate tolls according to the agreement and submit them to Changwon City."
A Seokhong, chairman of the Changwon Public Deliberation Committee, said, "It seems there is consensus on reducing toll fees. We will seek expert opinions on the agreement details and toll calculation process to find a toll reduction plan acceptable to the operator."
