Jinju City Ranks First Overall in the Ministry of Science and ICT's 2021 Data Flagship Project
City Aims to Build Advanced Transportation System Based on Big Data
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it has been selected as a supported institution for the '2021 Data Flagship Project' led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, securing 500 million KRW in national funding.
The Data Flagship Project is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency, conducted annually since 2013.
This project aims to revitalize the big data industry by utilizing big data and AI technologies, supporting the development of products and services for solving social issues and business innovation.
This year, 44 institutions participated in the competition, and after first and second round document reviews and presentation evaluations, a total of 12 projects were finally selected.
In particular, Jinju City applied as a consortium with the Korea Transport Institute, Korea ITS Association, Cubicware, and Dawon ENG, and by being selected as the top project overall, secured a total project budget of 587 million KRW.
The city participated in the competition under the theme "Our City's Intersections Always Have Green Lights," aiming to build data reflecting actual vehicle traffic patterns based on road network traffic patterns and intersection characteristics, and to apply this to the traffic signal operation system to configure optimized traffic signals.
Additionally, without incurring enormous project costs for building traffic information collection infrastructure, actual vehicle traffic patterns will be analyzed through big data and reflected in the traffic signal operation system. It will also be used to establish a high-resolution traffic network based on mobility data and to develop traffic signal control strategies.
