"Faster and More Accurate Diagnosis with AI" SKT Signs Medical AI Solution Development Agreement with Catholic Central Medical Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] SK Telecom announced on the 30th that it has signed an agreement with the Catholic University Catholic Medical Center (CMC) to develop a medical imaging diagnostic assistance solution using artificial intelligence (AI).
Accordingly, CMC will provide and analyze high-quality medical big data with the support of specialized medical personnel, while SK Telecom will analyze and learn from the medical big data based on AI capabilities such as Meta Learner to develop an AI imaging diagnostic assistance solution. Meta Learner is an AI automation platform that can develop optimized AI solutions for each field across various domains, characterized by significantly reducing the time required for labeling and learning medical images.
The developed medical imaging diagnostic assistance solution will be verified under the supervision of medical experts at hospitals affiliated with CMC to enhance its completeness. Plans to jointly commercialize the solution will also be pursued in the future. The use of the solution is expected to enable faster and more accurate diagnoses, reducing the workload of medical staff as well as shortening patients' waiting and treatment times.
SK Telecom and CMC plan to expand the application of AI in the medical field through this collaboration. They will also promote the development of a ‘Medical AI Full-Stack Solution’ that integrates not only hardware such as AI semiconductors but also AI automation platforms, database management, and medical applications. Through the development of vision AI solutions to prevent safety accidents within hospitals, they plan to contribute to patient safety. Initially, with prior consent from guardians, an AI CCTV-based sudden situation response solution will be applied to psychiatric ward patients and patients with developmental disabilities, for whom real-time safety response is critical.

Kim Daejin, Director of CMC’s Information Convergence Promotion Institute, said, “This is a great opportunity to lead the AI healthcare industry,” and added, “Based on CMC’s medical big data, the largest scale in Korea including the Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW), we will closely cooperate with SKT to improve patient treatment.” CMC operates the largest single medical information system hospital network in Korea, running a total of approximately 6,300 beds across eight affiliated hospitals including Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. Additionally, it has built and operates medical information for over 15 million people based on an integrated medical information system.
