View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon-do, a tourist city, has presented a strategy for sustainable regional economic revitalization and regional development through the bio-industry utilizing the region's specialized resources.
On the 30th, Gangwon-do announced, "We have established and announced the '2nd Gangwon-do Biodiversity Strategy (2021-2025),' which sets policy directions and strategic tasks aimed at systematic conservation management of biodiversity and sustainable use of biological resources."
The 2nd strategy consists of 6 major strategies, 18 goals, and 72 action tasks under the vision of "A happy Gangwon-do where biodiversity and human-respecting ecological economy thrive."
The 6 major strategies include ▲ biodiversity resident education promotion and professional workforce training ▲ strengthening management of threat factors such as monitoring habitat destruction of wild animals due to climate change and removal of invasive species ▲ expanding protected areas and strengthening protection and management of endangered wild animals.
Additionally, it includes ▲ discovering useful biological resources and traditional knowledge and preparing conservation measures, building a database of Gangwon-do native biological resources, and fostering bio-industries by sector ▲ establishing the Gangwon-do Biodiversity Center and attracting the Korean Peninsula DMZ Peace Bio Museum ▲ establishing and operating a cooperative system of bio-industry experts.
Furthermore, the province plans to establish and promote new and diverse policies to secure biological sovereignty and maintain the soundness of biodiversity.
