CCTV Monitoring Captures Scene of Traffic Accident Driver Swap Crime... 12 Public Service Control Workers on 24-Hour 4-Team 2-Shift Duty
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that the real-time video tracking by a security CCTV monitoring officer working at the Smart City Integrated Control Center contributed to the arrest of a suspect involved in a driver identity swap crime following a traffic accident on the 15th.
At around 2 a.m. on April 15, a report was received at the police station's 112 situation room stating that "a vehicle traffic accident occurred on the street in front of 297 Sinsa-dong, Eunpyeong-gu." Subsequently, the police found no evidence of intoxication in the vehicle owner who appeared at the accident scene claiming to be the driver.
However, while monitoring the scene at the Eunpyeong-gu Smart City Integrated Control Center, it was confirmed that the actual driver left the scene and another individual appeared at the accident site claiming to have been the driver. This was immediately reported to the police.
Accordingly, the accident investigation team of the Western Police Station acknowledged the driver swap, summoned the actual driver to voluntarily appear, and allowed the vehicle owner to return home after writing a statement.
Lee Young-woo, Chief of the Seoul Western Police Station, visited the control center to reaffirm the importance of the cooperative investigation system between the district office and the police station, and awarded a letter of appreciation to monitoring officer Lee Yong-jun for his contribution to the arrest of the important suspect.
