'Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation' Safer and Faster... Online Public Hearing Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Mun Je-won] A public hearing will be held to prepare the basic metropolitan area wide-area transportation plan for the next 20 years and the metropolitan area wide-area transportation implementation plan for the next 5 years.
The Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 28th that a public hearing on the "2nd Basic Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Plan (draft)" and the "4th Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Implementation Plan (draft)" will be held at 2 p.m. on the 29th, hosted by the Korea Transport Institute.
This public hearing will be held online in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. Interested citizens can watch the public hearing live on YouTube and freely express their opinions.
The basic plan (draft) includes wide-area transportation demand forecasts and phased implementation strategies for the next 20 years, while the implementation plan (draft) contains plans for expanding wide-area transportation facilities and promoting the wide-area transportation system over the next 5 years.
To establish the plan, the Korea Transport Institute has been conducting research since May 2019, analyzing socioeconomic conditions such as population by metropolitan area and changes in wide-area transportation conditions.
At the public hearing, the institute will present the basic directions of the wide-area transportation plan, including ▲ reducing travel time to strengthen mobility within metropolitan areas ▲ establishing a safe and convenient public transportation system ▲ improving user satisfaction with wide-area transportation services ▲ enhancing the sustainability of the wide-area transportation system.

The institute will review the opinions presented at the public hearing to prepare the final draft, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will finalize and announce the plan within this year after consultations with related agencies, review by the National Transportation Committee (for the basic plan), and review by the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee (for the implementation plan).
