Fire Agency and POSCO Construction Join Forces to Reduce Residential Fire Risks
2021 Neighborhood Love Safety Keeper Project Launch Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency announced on the 28th that it will hold a 'Neighbor Love Safety Keeper Project Launch Ceremony' on the 29th at the POSCO Construction headquarters (Songdo, Incheon) to create a safe living environment for vulnerable groups.
This project began in 2013 when the National Fire Agency and POSCO Construction signed a business agreement to improve the housing environment for marginalized groups vulnerable to fire risks, and this year marks its ninth anniversary.
Over the past eight years, the housing environment improvement project has enhanced the living conditions of 251 vulnerable households, including elderly living alone, and installed residential fire safety equipment in 2,596 households, reducing the risk of fire occurrence.
The event minimized the number of attendees due to COVID-19 prevention measures. About 10 key figures, including Shin Yeol-woo, Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, and Han Sung-hee, CEO of POSCO Construction, attended in person, while approximately 60 POSCO Construction site officials and local fire station staff participated remotely via video. The launch ceremony proceeded with guest introductions and greetings, an overview of the 2021 Neighbor Love Safety Keeper Project, the project proclamation and cheering slogans, and a commemorative photo session.
This year, in addition to the housing environment improvement project, activities for senior safety keepers and safety facility reinforcement projects for special schools for the disabled will be added and promoted as part of the Neighbor Love Safety Keeper Project. Houses of 17 vulnerable households in 10 regions including Seoul and Incheon will be repaired, and safety fire prevention sets will be given to 90 households, while 80 households will receive safety fire extinguishers.
Last year, eight fire stations participated in the senior safety keeper volunteer activities, providing safety education to 450 seniors, but this year safety education will be provided to 700 seniors. Additionally, fire evacuation drills will be conducted at Cheongseon School, a special school for the disabled in Incheon, to identify vulnerabilities and reinforce safety facilities based on the findings.
