'Assault Controversy' Wife of Belgian Ambassador to Korea Discharged from Hospital... Ambassador: "I Will Cooperate with Police Investigation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The wife of the Belgian ambassador to Korea, who recently caused controversy due to an assault incident involving a clothing store employee, is expected to undergo police investigation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 26th, Peter Lescouhier, the Belgian ambassador to Korea, officially informed the ministry that his wife was discharged from the hospital on the 23rd and expressed willingness to cooperate with the police investigation.
Ambassador Lescouhier personally called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating that he would coordinate schedules and undergo the police investigation. Separately, the ministry reportedly conveyed that it would help resolve the situation if his wife directly apologized to the victim.
The ambassador’s wife is currently reported to be resting after her discharge.
In a press release posted on social media on the 22nd, Ambassador Lescouhier expressed deep regret regarding the incident involving his wife on April 9th, apologized to the victim on her behalf, and stated, "Under no circumstances can my wife’s actions be tolerated."
During the phone call that day, the ambassador reportedly expressed that his wife fully recognizes the necessity of apologizing to the victim for an amicable resolution.

Meanwhile, Jang Ha-yeon, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said at a press briefing that "The victim has been questioned, and CCTV footage has been secured. The subject (the ambassador’s wife) has been registered as a suspect and is under investigation," adding, "We have determined that her appearance is necessary to verify the facts and are continuously requesting her attendance through relevant agencies."
