Ministry of Justice Strengthens Initial Response to Child Abuse Cases Led by Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Ministry of Justice has decided to activate case management meetings involving frontline prosecutors to strengthen the initial response to child abuse cases. In addition, it will establish recidivism prevention measures in collaboration with probation officers and child protection agencies.
On the 26th, the Ministry of Justice explained the progress and future plans of the child rights protection policy, focusing on this content, during a press briefing.
According to the Ministry of Justice, about 70% of child abuse cases are not criminalized, so judicial measures such as temporary measures to protect the victimized children, protective dispositions, and criminal judgments are not being implemented.
In response, the Ministry of Justice announced plans to activate case management meetings where prosecutors can communicate and collaborate regularly with child abuse response entities within the local community.
Furthermore, it will strengthen information sharing and coordination with probation officers who play a role in preventing offenders' recidivism and child protection agencies responsible for the aftercare of victimized children to establish comprehensive recidivism prevention measures.
