On the 26th, Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, visited POSCO Chemical, a producer of secondary battery cathode and anode materials, and made this announcement. The battery industry development strategy includes support for secondary battery technology development, ecosystem advancement, training of specialized personnel, and infrastructure establishment.
Minister Sung emphasized, "Global trends such as competition to secure high-performance, low-cost, and high-safety technologies, resource circulation, and supply chain management are rapidly changing," adding, "It is necessary to strengthen competitiveness through securing next-generation technologies, reinforcing the materials, parts, and equipment ecosystem, specialized workforce, and industry base, as well as solidarity and cooperation across the entire ecosystem."
On the same day, Minister Sung held an on-site meeting with secondary battery material companies and demand companies to listen to industry opinions and inspect production lines.
Participants in the meeting pointed out that while the materials sector is a key element in strengthening global competitiveness, Korea's market share is lower compared to finished secondary battery products. They also requested the establishment of an industry cooperation network to strengthen the domestic materials, parts, and equipment ecosystem capabilities and government support.

Meanwhile, POSCO Chemical, a manufacturer of secondary battery cathode and anode materials, is actively building new domestic and overseas infrastructure applying advanced automation processes. In connection with POSCO's resource development, it contributes to establishing a stable secondary battery supply chain from raw materials such as lithium (Argentina) and graphite (Africa) to cathode and anode materials. Additionally, through national research projects, it continuously develops technologies to apply high-performance and eco-friendly secondary battery materials such as artificial graphite, surface-modified natural graphite, and materials developed through battery recycling.
