The Bar Association: "1,706 Pass the Lawyer Exam... Causing Legal Market Confusion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Korean Bar Association expressed regret over the Ministry of Justice's decision to set the number of successful candidates for this year's bar exam at 1,706, a level similar to last year.
In a statement released on the 22nd, the Korean Bar Association said, "The Ministry of Justice ignored the desperate pleas of the legal community and decided on a number of successful candidates that exceeds the legal market's capacity," adding, "We condemn this decision and clarify that the Ministry of Justice and the government are responsible for the future confusion in the legal market." The association has long urged that since the introduction of law schools (Roschool), the number of lawyers has surged, and with too many new lawyers being produced, the essential practical training is not being properly conducted, calling for the number of successful candidates to be reduced to below 1,200.
