SK General Chemicals Conducts Plogging to Protect Both the Earth and Health
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Innovation's chemical business subsidiary, SK General Chemical, announced on the 22nd that it will conduct contactless plogging (an environmental protection activity involving picking up trash while walking or jogging) for about a month in celebration of Earth Day.
On the 22nd, Na Kyung-soo, president of SK General Chemical, participated in plogging with employees along the Han River area, including Dongjak Bridge and Hangang Bridge in Seoul, collecting trash such as plastic bags and disposable cups. On the same day, employees at SK General Chemical's domestic and overseas sites, including Daejeon, Ulsan, and Shanghai, China, also took part in plogging individually.
SK General Chemical plans to conduct the plogging event over about a month while adhering to basic quarantine guidelines, ensuring that groups of five or more do not gather.
Plogging first started in Sweden in 2016 and became globally famous after Icelandic President Guðni J?hannesson participated. Recently, participation has expanded from domestic jogging clubs to ordinary people interested in environmental protection.
SK General Chemical employees participate by practicing plogging during working hours at various locations such as their homes or near the company and by taking certification photos. Additionally, during the plogging period, SK General Chemical will use eco-friendly biodegradable plastic bags made from PBAT (Poly Butylene Adipate-co-Terephthalate) material jointly developed with Kolon Industries to collect trash.
