Hanwha Total Employees Unite Steps to Practice Earth Love Together
Donation of 10 Million KRW for Desertification Prevention Forest Fund through 'In-House Non-Face-to-Face Walking Sports Event'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Hanwha Total is taking the lead in eco-friendly social contribution activities that promote employees' personal health through voluntary participation and contribute to protecting the global environment.
On the 22nd, Hanwha Total announced that it donated 10 million KRW to the international environmental protection organization Green Asia Foundation to create forests to prevent desertification in celebration of Earth Day.
The funds donated by Hanwha Total this time were raised through employees' "non-face-to-face walking event" project. In March, Hanwha Total held a walking event through the mobile application "BigWalk" for a month, and if the total number of steps taken by employees exceeded 100 million steps, trees would be donated to create forests to prevent desertification.
Hanwha Total employees showed interest in the purpose of the non-face-to-face walking event, which collects daily steps to donate trees to desertified areas, and over the course of a month, they collected a total of 120 million steps, exceeding the project goal. The 120 million steps correspond to approximately 60,000 km in distance, which is equivalent to planting about 2,200 30-year-old pine trees if no public transportation or private vehicles were used.
The donation delivered to the Green Asia Foundation through this walking event will be used to plant trees and create forests in regions such as Mongolia, where desertification is progressing due to climate change, and to restore ecosystems.
