Damyang-gun to Hold Lights-Out Event on April 22 in Observance of Earth Day
Raising Awareness of Carbon Neutrality and Expanding Climate Action Practices
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Damyang-gun announced on the 20th that it will hold a lights-out event for 10 minutes from 8 PM on the 22nd to raise awareness of carbon neutrality and promote climate-friendly actions in commemoration of 'Earth Day.'
Earth Day, marking its 51st anniversary this year, is a global commemorative day that began on April 22, 1970, with the purpose of protecting the environment, triggered by an oil spill accident off the coast of California, USA, in 1969.
During this event, the county office building will turn off its lights for 10 minutes, and general households, apartment complexes, and commercial establishments can participate voluntarily.
Also, from the designated Climate Change Week of the 22nd to the 28th in celebration of 'Earth Day,' an online promotion-focused campaign will be conducted to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In particular, various online events to foster empathy and participation in carbon neutrality and to spread climate actions will be held through the Ministry of Environment's Carbon Neutrality website.
