Geochang-gun 41st Disabled Persons Day Commemoration Event Held
"Walking the Same Path, Finding the Way Together"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 20th, Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province held a commemorative ceremony for Disabled Persons' Day at the Disabled Complex Cultural Center, attended by about 70 people including County Governor Gu In-mo, county council members, provincial council members, and persons with disabilities.
The event was held in compliance with quarantine rules due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and was organized by five disability organizations including those for physical disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, spinal cord injuries, and the Parents' Association for the Disabled under the slogan "Walking the Same Path, Finding the Way Together."
The ceremony began with a sign language song performance by the Sign Language Interpretation Center and disability organizations, followed by awards for 13 individuals recognized for their contributions to the promotion of welfare for persons with disabilities and exemplary persons with disabilities, and proceeded with the chairman's address and congratulatory speeches.
Additionally, from the 20th to the 21st, various experiential events such as exhibitions of promotional materials for improving awareness of disabilities, disability experience activities by type, and Korean paper crafts by the Spinal Cord Injury Association will be held around the Geochang County Office rotary to provide opportunities for the public to properly understand disabilities.

In his encouragement speech, Geochang County Governor Gu In-mo promised, "Walking side by side with persons with disabilities, we will find ways together to help them live independently within the local community beyond the differences between disabilities and non-disabilities, and we will spare no support."
