Amorepacific Wins Main Prize at 2021 Red Dot Design Award

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Amorepacific announced on the 19th that three products, ‘Sulwhasoo Yunjo Essence Limited Edition,’ ‘Laneige Neo Cushion,’ and ‘Hanyul Dalbit Yuja Sleeping Pack,’ each won the main prize in the product design category at the ‘2021 Red Dot Design Award.’
The Red Dot Design Award, hosted by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, is considered one of the world's top three design competitions alongside the German iF Design Award and the American IDEA Design Award.
The Laneige Neo Cushion applied a borderless design that eliminates the distinction between the top and bottom surfaces. It emphasized the sleek square shape, recognized as an innovative element, removing unnecessary decorations and focusing on the essence of the product.
The Yunjo Essence expressed the value created by the coexistence of tradition and modernity in collaboration with collage artist ‘SAKI (Kwon Eun-jin).’ It was designed by reinterpreting the patterns and obangsaek (five traditional Korean colors) used in dancheong, a characteristic of Korean architecture, into fresh colors and patterns with lively calligraphy. Additionally, stickers were provided so customers could decorate the container using collage techniques.
The Hanyul Dalbit Yuja Sleeping Pack applied a structure where the product box cover unfolds as one piece when opened, minimizing packaging materials while containing rich content. Inside the product box, in collaboration with illustrator Yoon Ye-ji, the ‘Yuja shooting star’ falling from the night sky of Goheung, the origin of the product’s ingredients, was depicted like a fairy tale as it transforms into oil. In fact, the Hanyul Dalbit Yuja Sleeping Pack contains yuja peel oil made from seven freshly harvested Goheung yuja fruits from November.

Amorepacific has been winning the Red Dot Design Award for three consecutive years since 2019, including Cube Me, Bro & Tips, and Easy PG, following previous awards such as the Typography Excellence Award in Communication Design for the ‘Arita’ font in 2012, Makeon in 2015, and Arita Black in 2017.
