LG Chem, First in Korea to Obtain International Eco-Friendly Certification for 9 Products
SAP, PO, PC and 6 Other Products Obtain Eco-Friendly Certification
Production and Sales Scheduled from June at Yeosu and Iksan Factories
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] LG Chem has become the first in Korea to receive eco-friendly international certification for nine products used in diapers, IT and home appliances, and automotive materials.
On the 19th, LG Chem announced that it had obtained ISCC Plus certification for bio-balanced products produced from renewable plant-based raw materials such as waste cooking oil and palm oil.
The ISCC Plus certification is an international certification system that complies with the European Union (EU)'s Renewable Energy Directive, the strictest in the world, and is a representative means of proving the sustainability of eco-friendly bio products. ISCC has over 130 members worldwide, including eco-friendly raw material manufacturers, NGOs, and research institutions, and is the most trusted organization in the eco-friendly certification field due to its transparent evaluation criteria and rigorous certification procedures.
LG Chem received ISCC Plus certification for a total of nine Bio-balanced products, including the largest number in Korea of superabsorbent polymers (SAP), polyolefin (PO), and polycarbonate (PC) compounds. In addition, it became the first in Korea to obtain ISCC Plus certification for the entire value chain from raw materials to production, purchasing, and sales of related products.
With this certification, LG Chem has laid the groundwork to enhance customer trust in eco-friendly bio products and accelerate its market penetration.
Starting in June this year, LG Chem will begin the first production of eco-friendly products using bio raw materials from Neste, a Finnish company, at its Yeosu and Iksan plants. Last November, LG Chem signed a strategic partnership (MOU) with Neste, the world's largest biodiesel company, establishing a foundation to stably supply bio raw materials necessary for eco-friendly product production.
