Kim, a four-term lawmaker, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day and stated, "I will become a 'unified leader of change and innovation' who makes the People Power Party the central axis of the opposition coalition through strategic struggle and unity," expressing his intention to run in the floor leader election.
Kim particularly emphasized 'unified' politics. He said, "I do not belong to any specific faction, so there is almost no veto power against me within the party. In that regard, I believe I am the best candidate to fairly select and establish a presidential candidate by uniting various figures and forces inside and outside the party ahead of the presidential election," adding, "Through communication and empathy, I will demonstrate dynamic unified leadership based on 'addition and inclusion politics,' not 'subtraction and exclusion politics.'
He also proposed granting roles and authority to first-term lawmakers. Kim said, "I will actively reflect in the party's constitution and regulations to systematically and organizationally support the innovative strategies and visions of first-term lawmakers aimed at approaching the youth, reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of young people."
Regarding first-term lawmakers challenging for the party leader position, Kim said, "I warmly welcome it," and explained, "The fact that first-term lawmakers are stepping forward to run for party leader and that such an atmosphere is being created is very encouraging. An environment where active challenges and achievements can be made has been established."

Kim advocated for 'strengthening the party' as the beginning of opposition unity. He said, "We must strengthen ourselves and reorganize to gain public support. It is urgent to fully mobilize internal party personnel to first properly shape our own size," adding, "On the premise that we can firmly gain the people's support, we must take measures to embrace figures outside the party."
