Gwangju City Announces Call for Universities to Participate in AI Convergence University Support Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 18th that it is calling for universities to participate in the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Convergence University Support Project.’
The AI Convergence University Support Project is promoted to cultivate practical professional personnel who can be deployed on-site by establishing and operating relevant fields and AI convergence major courses within universities, focusing on corporate demand in three regional specialized industries?automobiles, energy, healthcare?and one field of AI core technology.
The recruitment target is four-year universities located in the region, and consortiums composed of the lead institution and participating organizations such as companies, institutions, and research institutes are also eligible to participate.
However, joint participation between universities as participating institutions is not allowed, but to expand the achievements of AI Convergence Universities, plans are in place to support credit exchange with other universities and allow non-majors to participate in AI convergence courses.
Applications for the project can be submitted by visiting the AI Industry Convergence Project Group in person from the 10th to 14th of next month by 4 p.m., and detailed information can be found on the AI Industry Convergence Project Group’s website.
A total of 15 billion KRW will be supported until 2024 for AI Convergence Universities selected in the four fields. Approximately 1 billion KRW per year (800 million KRW in the first year) will be provided for the regional specialized fields (automobiles, energy, healthcare), and approximately 800 million KRW per year (600 million KRW in the first year) will be provided for the AI core technology field.
Once selected as an AI Convergence University, the institution will open AI convergence courses by field and demand-oriented AI practical programs through industry-academia cooperation, and will officially operate the curriculum starting from the second semester of this year.
With AI courses offered across all grades, more than 760 local students are expected to participate annually in the AI Convergence University, becoming optimal practical personnel needed by the regional industry. Furthermore, the talents produced are anticipated to help solve the manpower supply challenges faced by local AI-related companies.
