Ministry of Employment Signs Contract with Labor Society for This Year's 'Youth Labor Rights Center' Consignment Operation
Free Legal Remedy Support... Consultation on Contract Drafting and Industrial Accident Insurance Enrollment for Delivery Industry
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 18th that it has signed a consignment operation contract for the 'Youth Labor Rights Center' with the Korea Certified Labor Attorneys Association this year.
Youth under the age of 24 who experience labor rights violations such as unpaid wages can consult via phone, internet, or KakaoTalk (ID=Youth Labor Rights Center). If relief is needed, certified labor attorneys will file complaints on behalf of the youth free of charge.
The center has been operated under consignment to the Labor Attorneys Association since July 2015 after a pilot implementation. Last year, about 499 million KRW (481 cases) of unpaid wages were resolved through free complaint representation support.
This year, consultations and rights relief support will be provided in areas of high interest to youth, such as contract drafting and industrial accident insurance enrollment in delivery sectors. Free support for complaint cases will be expanded, and collaboration with youth protection agency websites will be strengthened. If workplaces suspected of violating laws against multiple workers are discovered during consultations, the relevant local labor office will be notified to link with labor management guidance.

Oh Youngmin, Director of the Labor Standards Policy Division at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said, "Although the youth economic activity participation rate increased from 43.5% in 2012 to 46.4% last year, wage arrears and other issues still occur among working youth," adding, "We will operate the center solidly to ensure that working youth do not suffer damages or fail to receive relief due to lack of knowledge about labor laws."
