View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The number of students diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past week reached 395, the highest since the new semester began. This was due to cluster infections occurring in elementary schools in Seongnam and Jeonju, as well as academies in Daejeon.
On the 15th, the Ministry of Education announced that from the 8th to the 14th, 395 students and 58 faculty members tested positive for COVID-19. Compared to Jeonju, student cases increased by 60 and faculty cases by 8. This means an average of 56.4 students and 8.3 faculty members were confirmed positive per day.
As of 10 a.m. that day, 20,324 schools (99.1%) conducted in-person classes, while 146 schools (0.5%) switched to remote learning. Forty-two schools implemented discretionary holidays.
The schools unable to conduct in-person classes were distributed regionally as follows: 27 in Gyeonggi, 25 in Jeonbuk, 25 in Daejeon, and 20 in Seoul.
The number of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students attending in-person classes (as of 4 p.m. on the 7th) was 4,288,568, accounting for 72.3% of all students. The number of students not attending due to COVID-19 was 51,808, of whom 12,824 were in self-quarantine due to confirmed cases or contact.

In the past week, 145 university students tested positive, averaging 20.7 infections per day. University faculty confirmed cases were 14, averaging 2 per day. The cumulative confirmed cases increased to 820 students and 90 faculty members.
