Mayor Yujinseop Appeals for Citizen Participation in COVID-19 Prevention Measures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Yoo Jin-seop, mayor of Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk, held a press conference on the morning of the 15th in the city hall's main conference room titled ‘Appeal to Citizens to Participate in COVID-19 Prevention’ and urged people to refrain as much as possible from large-scale events or gatherings of various sports clubs and other private meetings that are not essential.
Mayor Yoo said, “Currently, there are a total of 66 confirmed cases in Jeongeup City, and among them, 16 infections have occurred from the 6th to the 15th,” adding, “Recently, infections have occurred in various places such as medical institutions and traditional markets, and cases of family transmission and infections with unclear transmission routes are increasing, making the situation very serious.”
He continued, “The fight against the COVID-19 virus is ultimately a race against time,” and stated, “The city will do its utmost to block the spread through extensive testing and rapid epidemiological investigations.”
He also emphasized, “Please adhere to basic prevention rules such as wearing masks, washing hands, personal hygiene management, and social distancing,” and stressed, “Following and participating in these basic prevention rules is the only way to regain the lost daily life.”
In particular, he urged active participation in COVID-19 diagnostic testing.
Mayor Yoo announced plans for continuous on-site inspections regarding the designation of quarantine managers for high-risk and key management facilities and compliance with quarantine rules, given the severe crisis situation.
The city plans to issue administrative orders banning gatherings and impose fines according to the ‘Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act’ on violating facilities, and will strongly crack down on private gatherings of five or more people.
Especially, the city intends to respond strongly with a zero-tolerance policy against any acts that hinder efforts to overcome COVID-19 in case of quarantine rule violations.
