This visit to central government ministries was carried out to explain Haenam-gun's pending projects, which account for the largest scale in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, and to request the promotion of projects that will serve as long-term growth engines.
Haenam-gun is promoting pending projects in the agriculture and fisheries sectors such as attracting a Climate Change Response Center for Agriculture, supporting vegetable shipment control facilities, the Haenam-gun Rural Agreement Project, establishing a kimchi export complex, creating a sweet potato rural convergence complex, and building Jeonnam-style rural job accommodations.
The Climate Change Response Center for Agriculture will establish an agricultural research institute and an experiential education complex, conducting agricultural policy research and experiential education in response to climate change at Ttangkkeut Haenam, the gateway to climate change on the Korean Peninsula.
Haenam-gun completed preliminary preparations for project promotion by conducting a feasibility study in 2019 and enacting the Subtropical Agriculture Promotion and Support Ordinance in 2020.
Additionally, last year, the attraction of the Jeonnam Integrated Subtropical Fruit Research Institute has created a green light for linked project promotion.
The vegetable shipment control facility, proposed as a new project to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and confirmed last year, will be built with a total project cost of 10 billion KRW to establish a shipment control center capable of year-round vegetable shipments.
It is expected to play a significant role in stabilizing the supply and demand of open-field vegetables such as winter cabbage, which accounts for the largest production volume nationwide, and in increasing farmers' income.
The Haenam-gun Rural Agreement is a rural living area revitalization project focused on investing in strengthening residents' capabilities, such as operating residents' autonomous councils, training autonomous activists, and opening social community centers, for sustainable rural development.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Haenam-gun have signed an agreement to support related projects as a package.
In addition, Haenam is discovering and promoting unique new agricultural projects such as designating a rural convergence industrial complex linked to the production, processing, and experience of Haenam's specialty sweet potatoes, and establishing a kimchi export complex to promote Haenam cabbage consumption and foster the export kimchi industry. They plan to accelerate stable and focused project promotion through securing national funding.
On this day, visits to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries were also made to secure national funding for the construction of a quality-controlled dried seaweed logistics center, followed by visits to the Ministry of Environment for sewage pipeline maintenance in Munnae-myeon, rural village sewage maintenance, and the creation of a circular landfill for living resource processing.
