Abuse of Power and Bizarre Acts by Yang Jin-ho: 5 Years in Second Trial... What Will the Supreme Court Decide?
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Supreme Court is set to deliver its final verdict on former Korea Future Technology Chairman Yang Jin-ho, who was sentenced to prison for abusing employees and engaging in bizarre acts. Yang was sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial and five years in the appellate trial.
On the 15th, the Supreme Court's First Division (Presiding Justice Lee Heung-gu) will hold the sentencing hearing for Yang's appeal trial on charges including assault.
Yang faces charges including special rape, coercion, habitual assault, violation of the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana), violation of the Animal Protection Act, violation of the Act on the Safety Control of Firearms, Knives, and Explosives, confinement, and joint injury. Notably, in April 2013, he was accused of forcibly giving an unidentified pill to a company employee, and in June 2015, at a company workshop, forcibly feeding raw garlic. He also forced employees to consume hot sauce and to dye their hair against their will.
In the first trial, Yang was sentenced to seven years in prison. However, the second trial reduced his sentence to five years. The appellate court acknowledged most of Yang's charges but dismissed the special rape charge due to insufficient evidence.

At that time, the court stated regarding the special rape charge, "It is somewhat difficult to accept without reasonable doubt the fact that the victim was assaulted with the victim's mobile phone and a broken sofa leg," and "Since the victim did not file a complaint against Yang at that time, the crime requiring a complaint does not apply."
