Samsung Electronics Attends White House Meeting, Tweets "Thanks to Biden for Creating a Dialogue Opportunity"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Companies that attended the recent "Semiconductor Virtual Meeting" held at the White House, including Samsung Electronics, expressed their impressions of the meeting while mentioning the White House.
According to the industry on the 14th, Samsung Electronics posted on the North America General External Cooperation Twitter account the day before, "We thank President Joe Biden and U.S. government officials for providing a platform for open dialogue with industry leaders to advance the cutting-edge semiconductor industry." It added, "Samsung Electronics is doing its best to supply the world's best advanced semiconductors to customers," and "We are pleased that the U.S. federal government and Congress are discussing essential support of $50 billion (approximately 55.7 trillion KRW) for semiconductor manufacturing and research and development."
The U.S. White House held a "Semiconductor Virtual Meeting" on the 12th, inviting 19 global companies to seek solutions to the semiconductor supply shortage crisis. From Samsung Electronics, Choi Si-young, President of the Foundry Business Division, attended the meeting.
Samsung Electronics' tweet came amid messages from companies attending the virtual meeting, responding to the U.S.'s aggressive semiconductor investment plans and calls for participation in investment. Other semiconductor companies attending the meeting also expressed gratitude for being invited while mentioning the White House.
U.S. semiconductor company Micron stated on its official Twitter, "We are grateful for the opportunity to attend the White House semiconductor meeting," and welcomed "President Biden's job policies to strengthen U.S. infrastructure and semiconductor leadership." It further pledged, "Micron will cooperate with the U.S. administration, Congress, and customers to enhance the stability and resilience of the U.S. semiconductor supply chain and to modernize Micron's infrastructure." GlobalFoundries also mentioned on Twitter, "We are honored to attend the White House meeting for semiconductor supply."

Samsung Electronics is considering additional expansion of semiconductor factories in three candidate locations in the U.S.: Austin, Texas; Arizona; and New York, and is discussing incentive plans with local governments.
