Gwangju City Calls for Preliminary Entries for Korea Craft Competition
Applications accepted from May 3 to June 2... Award-winning works advance to the finals
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 14th that it will accept entries for the '51st Korea Craft Competition Gwangju Metropolitan City Preliminary Contest' from May 3rd to June 2nd.
This Gwangju preliminary contest is hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City and organized by the Gwangju Design Center, divided into general and student divisions, selecting works in six categories: ▲Wood and Lacquer Craft ▲Ceramic Craft ▲Metal Craft ▲Textile Craft ▲Paper Craft ▲Other fields using materials such as stone, glass, hard materials, fur, and bone carving, with 25 works in the general division and 13 works in the student division planned to be selected.
Eligibility for entry requires residency in Gwangju or enrollment in a school located in the Gwangju area.
Entries will be evaluated by a panel of external experts focusing on quality level, marketability, design, and creativity.
In particular, the plan is to select creative crafts that combine traditional craft techniques and form as a basic foundation with modern design, beauty, and marketability.
There are size restrictions on entries; the total number of items in a set or series must be within 15, and within the same work, designs, specifications, and colors that are identical must be limited to 3.
As a result of the judging, in the general division, 25 winners will receive prizes including a grand prize of 3 million KRW (1 work) and excellence awards of 2 million KRW (2 works), and in the student division, 13 winners will receive prizes including a grand prize of 400,000 KRW (1 work) and an excellence award of 300,000 KRW (1 work), along with certificates.
Additionally, as follow-up support, winning works in the general division will be granted eligibility to enter the '51st Korea Craft Competition Final Contest' organized by the Korea Craft Cooperative Federation, and support such as advanced consulting and marketing for the final entries will be provided.
The preliminary contest award-winning works will be exhibited at the '2021 Bitgoeul Handmade Fair' held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center on August 20th.

Applications can be submitted by applying for entry on the 51st Korea Craft Competition website, then sending the entry application form and other documents via email to the Gwangju Design Center, and finally submitting the works in person.
