Supreme Court Nominee Cheon Dae-yeop's Assets Decrease to 258 Million KRW, Owns 2007 Model Car
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Supreme Court nominee Cheon Dae-yeop reported assets worth 258 million KRW. His car is a 2007 model valued at about 4 million KRW. Among high-ranking judges, he has the least assets.
According to the public disclosure of candidates for public office by the National Assembly on the 13th, Cheon’s total assets amount to 258.12 million KRW. This includes land in Busan (56㎡) valued at 62.1 million KRW, a house worth 99.5 million KRW, and a leasehold right in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province worth 175 million KRW.
The car is a 2007 SM7 (engine displacement 2349cc) with a declared value of 4.03 million KRW. Deposits total 55.27 million KRW, but financial debts reach 219.17 million KRW. As of the end of last year, this is a decrease from the approximately 273 million KRW reported in the high-ranking judges’ asset status disclosed last month. Among 144 high-ranking judges subject to disclosure, he has the smallest assets.
He served as a Navy captain and was discharged. His eldest son completed his service as a Navy sergeant. His second son enlisted as a volunteer soldier in August 2016 and was discharged, and was reported to have been called up as a social service agent in July last year.

Nominee Cheon graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Law and has served as a presiding judge at Busan High Court, presiding judge at Seoul High Court, standing member of the Sentencing Commission, and senior presiding judge at Seoul High Court. If appointed, all 13 Supreme Court justices will be filled with non-prosecutorial personnel.
