Gwangju Dong-gu Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Symbolic Sculpture of Art Street
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced that it held an unveiling ceremony on the 12th following the completion of the installation of the symbolic sculpture of Art Street, which was promoted as a citizen participation budget project.
The unveiling ceremony was held with only a minimal number of attendees, including the Art Street Prosperity Association and the Artists' Association, while adhering to social distancing quarantine rules to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19.
The symbolic sculpture of Art Street is 3.5 meters tall and features a painter and the Art Street font as the main motifs, designed with highly visible colors. It serves not only to promote public facilities but also functions as a photo zone.
This symbolic sculpture was installed with active cooperation from residents through the Public Sculpture Deliberation Committee and residents' briefing sessions, and it is expected to serve as a landmark for visitors to Art Street in the future.
In addition, Dong-gu is continuously promoting various projects such as creating a safe walking environment to revitalize Art Street.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “The symbolic sculpture, located at the entrance of Art Street, replaces the old sculpture that had become problematic due to aging, and its rebirth will raise the pride of Art Street and establish it as a new attraction.” He added, “We will also do our best to revitalize the downtown commercial district and support artists' creative activities.”
