Asian Chloe Zhao Wins Directors Guild of America Award... 'Minari' Misses Out
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Chloe Zhao, a Chinese-born director of the film 'Nomadland,' received the directing award from the Directors Guild of America (DGA). This is the first time an Asian woman has won the DGA directing award.
On the 10th (local time), the DGA held its 73rd awards ceremony and presented Zhao with the highest honor, according to American film industry outlet Deadline and others.
Director Zhao was born in Beijing, China, attended a private school in London, UK, and completed high school in California, USA. Although her nationality is Chinese, she has primarily worked on film projects in the United States.
Zhao is also competing for the Academy Award for Best Director. 'Nomadland' is currently nominated in six categories including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Actress, Cinematography, Editing, and Adapted Screenplay.
