[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung SDI announced on the 7th that it will raise employee wages by an average of 7% compared to the previous year.
The Samsung SDI Labor-Management Council agreed the day before on a proposal to increase the base salary by an average of 4.5% and performance pay by an average of 2.5% compared to the previous year. The performance increase rate is applied differentially according to personnel evaluations, so the company explained that the wage increase rate for each employee this year may vary depending on rank and evaluation.
Internal welfare benefits for employees will also be strengthened. For female employees experiencing infertility, paid leave will be increased from the existing 3 days to 5 days, and a new support fund of 1 million KRW per year will be provided. Additionally, welfare points will be raised from 700,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW, shift allowances will be increased by 120,000 KRW, and domestic travel expenses will be raised by 50,000 KRW.

The agreed terms will be applied starting this month and will be retroactively paid up to March on the wage payment date of the 21st. According to Samsung SDI's 2020 business report, the average annual salary of employees excluding registered executives last year was 83 million KRW.
