Gwangju Buk-gu Selected for Hanbok Culture Education Program for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 6th that it was the only district in Gwangju selected in the ‘2021 Elementary, Middle, and High School Hanbok Culture Education Operation Local Government Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft & Design Cultural Promotion Agency, receiving 40 million KRW in national funding.
The Hanbok Culture Education Operation project was prepared to raise students' interest in hanbok and to further spread hanbok culture into daily life.
From June to October, Buk-gu will operate a ‘Visiting Hanbok Culture Experience Program’ targeting local elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as culturally marginalized groups such as special schools and multicultural family support centers, in cooperation with the Buk-gu Cultural Center (Director Oh Dong-oh).
The program will be conducted through hanbok theory education by professional instructors (including Jeong Insoon, a Korean Master Craftsman) and hands-on experiences such as wearing hanbok, playing Biseokchigi, and Yutnori to engage students' interest.
Additionally, a permanent experience center will be established within the Buk-gu Cultural Center to exhibit clothing and photographs, and hanbok culture education will also be provided for residents.
Hanbok culture education may be converted to online lectures depending on the COVID-19 social distancing situation, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the Culture and Arts Division of Buk-gu Office.
