Through this MOU, both companies aim to jointly develop sustainable eco-friendly alternatives and agreed to develop eco-friendly materials that can replace existing chemically derived raw materials for application in cosmetics. They also plan to accelerate efforts to develop 100% biodegradable eco-friendly containers by applying new eco-friendly materials to packaging.
Amorepacific has been striving to replace chemically derived ingredients with naturally derived ones. In a preliminary joint study conducted with Hansol Paper, it was confirmed that replacing with cellulose derived from nothing (zero) achieves high biodegradability while improving the stability and feel of cosmetics compared to existing naturally derived raw materials. The technology utilizing the structural characteristics of cellulose is currently one of the globally recognized new material technologies, characterized by high biodegradability and hydrophilicity.
Previously, the two companies developed eco-friendly citrus paper using underutilized citrus peels and applied it to cosmetic packaging. They plan to continue various joint projects to build a sustainable ecosystem.
Amorepacific CEO Sehong Ahn said, “We hope to create synergy based on the eco-friendly business philosophies of both companies,” and added, “Going forward, Amorepacific will lead ESG management in the beauty industry through research with Hansol Paper to ensure that nature and humans can be healthy and beautiful together.”
