Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Busan Metropolitan City Conduct Final Check on July 7 By-Election
Inspection of Social Distancing Signage and Preparedness of Quarantine Supplies at Polling Stations on the 6th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 7th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 5th that it will visit the 5th polling station in Gaya 1-dong, Busan Metropolitan City, one day before the election day, on the 6th, to conduct a final inspection of election preparations in anticipation of the by-elections and re-elections.
The on-site inspection will be attended by Park Seong-ho, Director of Local Autonomy and Decentralization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Lee Byung-jin, Acting Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, and Seo Eun-sook, Mayor of Busanjin District Office.
This inspection will check not only the installation status of polling stations but also the attachment of social distancing signs inside the polling stations and the preparation status of quarantine supplies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as the situation continues.
As in last year's National Assembly election, voters under self-quarantine who have no COVID-19 symptoms on election day can vote with the approval of their local health center for going out, so voting procedures in preparation for this will also be inspected.
Voters under self-quarantine due to COVID-19 must apply to their local government for voting and, after receiving approval to go out from the health center, arrive at their polling station before 8 p.m. They can vote after the general voters have finished voting.
Park Seong-ho, Director of Local Autonomy and Decentralization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said before the on-site inspection, "The government and local governments are doing their best to create a safe voting environment and guarantee the precious voting rights of the people even in the emergency situation of COVID-19," and urged, "We hope voters comply with quarantine rules inside the polling stations and safely exercise their precious vote."
