The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in Florida announced on the 2nd (local time) that Xavier Donte Alexander (28), residing in Florida, was arrested the previous day on charges of attempting to meet a minor for sexual relations, among other allegations.
Alexander, a 4th-grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens, posted babysitter advertisements on various websites.
In the advertisements, Alexander claimed to have spent over 10 years working with children in schools, youth departments, and children's clubs.
On another website, Alexander advertised that since 2012, he had been involved in various activities such as after-school counselor, leader, and supervisor within the Palm Beach County school district.
However, Alexander was hired as a teacher at Grove Park Elementary School only six months ago.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit are also focusing on the possibility of additional victims.
The Sheriff's Office has not disclosed any further information regarding Alexander's charges.
Alexander, who was arrested without bail, is scheduled to appear in court on the 2nd.
The Palm Beach County School District stated, "We are shocked and appalled," and added, "We are cooperating with law enforcement."
The school district also said, "Alexander has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation," and "All of Alexander's alleged crimes occurred outside of school, and parents have been notified."
