Early Voting Rate for April 7 By-Election at 4 PM: 7.31%
Seoul and Busan Early Voting Rates at 7.67% and 6.99% Respectively
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] As of 4 p.m. on the first day of early voting for the April 7 by-elections, the turnout rate was recorded at 7.31%. This figure is lower compared to the 9.74% turnout at the same time during last year's general election, but slightly higher than the 7.09% turnout during the 7th local elections held in 2018.
According to the National Election Commission on the 2nd, as of 4 p.m., out of 12,161,624 eligible voters nationwide, 888,986 participated in early voting. The early voting turnout rate stands at 7.31%.
The early voting turnout rates in Seoul and Busan, which are the most closely watched in this by-election, were 7.67% and 6.99%, respectively.
In the Seoul mayoral election, 645,957 out of 8,425,869 voters cast their ballots, while in the Busan mayoral election, 205,293 out of 2,936,301 voters participated in early voting.
At the same time during the last general election, Seoul had an early voting turnout of 9.58%, and Busan had 9.06%.
However, compared to the 7th local elections, the early voting turnout rates in Seoul and Busan are higher. At that time, Seoul and Busan had early voting rates of 6.20% and 6.05%, respectively.
This by-election is being held in 21 locations, including two metropolitan mayoral positions (Seoul and Busan), two basic local government heads (Ulsan Nam-gu District Chief, Gyeongnam Uiryeong County Chief), eight metropolitan council members (such as Gyeonggi Province council members and Chungbuk Province council members), and nine basic council members (such as Jeonnam Boseong County council members and Gyeongnam Haman County council members).
