Jeonnam Fire Department Begins Special Fire Prevention Watch Duty Until the 7th
Cheongmyeong, Hansik, and By-election Period
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 2nd that it will begin a "special alert duty" until the 7th in preparation for the wildfire-prone period during Cheongmyeong and Hansik and the upcoming by-elections.
In the past three years, a total of 97 fires occurred during the special alert duty period for Cheongmyeong and Hansik, resulting in 4 casualties (1 death, 3 injuries) and property damage amounting to approximately 350 million won.
Among these, forest fires accounted for 34 cases, representing 35% of all fires, with negligence being the cause in 56.7% of cases, more than half.
With the by-elections overlapping, a total of 15,039 personnel including firefighters and volunteer firefighters, and 690 pieces of equipment will be mobilized to conduct fire prevention patrols more than three times a day at memorial facilities such as cemeteries, hiking trails, forest-adjacent areas, and polling stations throughout the province.
Through patrols, potential fire hazards will be preemptively eliminated, and burning activities around rice paddies and fields will be prevented. Firefighting forces will be pre-positioned at 20 key locations including major hiking trails, public cemeteries, and polling stations to establish a rapid initial response system.
In particular, fire pump trucks and ambulances will be stationed at the three polling stations in Boseong, Suncheon, and Goheung, and the head of the local safety center will be assigned inside the polling stations to actively support the smooth progress of the vote counting process.
Meanwhile, prior to the by-elections, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters conducted an emergency special fire safety inspection at 75 polling stations in the Jeonnam region last month.
