5G Consumers Demand Compensation from the Three Major Telecom Companies for Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 2nd, one day before the 2nd anniversary of 5G commercialization, consumers demanded compensation for the expensive fees they paid while condemning the quality of 5G from mobile carriers.
The Naver Cafe '5G Pihyeja Moim' (5G Victims Group) held a press conference in front of SK Telecom headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day, stating, "Users who trusted the government and mobile carriers, purchased 5G phones, and subscribed to 5G plans are unfairly paying tens of thousands of won more per person," and urged, "Mobile carriers must promptly compensate for the damages."
They emphasized, "Due to delays in the construction of 5G base stations by SKT, KT, and LG Uplus, 5G service is inaccessible in most areas, yet users are paying high 5G fees," adding, "Mobile carriers, who must have anticipated this situation, should have significantly reduced 5G usage fees."
The group has been preparing a class-action lawsuit for 5G users through the litigation platform 'Hwanan Saramdeul' (Angry People) since the 22nd of last month. The number of people expressing their intention to participate in the lawsuit has reached about 10,000 so far.
