Gimhae City Accepts Applications for the 'Basic Public Interest Direct Payment Program' Until May 31
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, is accepting applications for the 2021 Basic Public Interest Direct Payment Project, which is implemented to promote the public functions of agriculture and rural areas and stabilize farmers' incomes, until May 31.
The Basic Public Interest Direct Payment Project is a program that integrates and reorganizes the existing rice, field, and conditionally disadvantaged direct payment projects and has been implemented since the previous year.
Among applicants, farmers who meet 8 small-scale farmer requirements, including compliance with 17 agricultural and rural public function obligations, cultivation area of 0.5 hectares or less, residence in rural areas for more than 3 years prior to the application year, and farming experience of more than 3 years, will receive a small-scale farmer direct payment of 1.2 million KRW per household. Other farmers will receive an area-based direct payment averaging 1.7 million KRW per hectare (distinguished between paddy fields and dry fields, promotion and non-promotion areas).
Eligible applicants include those who have legitimately received existing direct payments at least once between 2016 and 2019, existing farmers who received the basic public interest direct payment in 2020, and new farmers who have engaged in agriculture on eligible farmland for at least one year during the three years prior to application.
The eligible farmland is land that has a record of legitimately receiving existing direct payments at least once between 2017 and 2019.
Applications for the project can be submitted by May 31 to the administrative welfare centers in the towns, townships, and neighborhoods where the farmland is located. From June to October, farmer eligibility verification and farmland compliance inspections will be conducted, and once the recipients are finalized, the public interest direct payments are scheduled to be made in early December.
