COVID-19 Cases in Schools and Academies in Gyeonggi-do Show 'Increasing Trend'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in schools and academies in Gyeonggi-do has significantly increased after the March school semester and academy openings.
Im Seung-kwan, head of the Gyeonggi-do COVID-19 Emergency Response Team, held a regular press conference on the 1st and explained, "Looking at the monthly confirmed cases in elementary, middle, and high schools in the province, there were 350 cases in January, 252 in February, and a sharp increase to 420 cases after the March semester and academy openings."
He added, "The proportion of elementary, middle, and high school students among the total monthly confirmed cases also rose from 6.8% in January and 6.6% in February to 8.6% in March."
He continued, "From January to March, the total confirmed cases in educational facilities such as elementary, middle, high schools, universities, and academies in the province were 485 in elementary schools, 294 in middle schools, 231 in high schools, 12 in universities, and 61 in academies, totaling 1,083 cases. Among them, 959 were students and 124 were faculty and staff."

Im emphasized, "Students and faculty members should refrain from attending school if they have suspicious symptoms, and if symptoms are clear, they must undergo diagnostic testing. School health management officers should also establish and manage a system to accurately and efficiently monitor symptomatic individuals."
