[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] “Be sure to apply for the Guro-gu Veterans Allowance!”
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has produced a leaflet detailing veterans policies and mailed it to over 4,300 national veterans in the area.
Guro-gu stated on the 1st, “There are often cases where veterans policy beneficiaries fail to apply for veterans allowances due to lack of information when they change their address,” adding, “To prevent this, we recently completed mailing leaflets containing support policies.”
The leaflet was designed to allow a quick overview of veterans policy eligibility, support details, and application methods.
National veterans in Guro-gu include independence, national, war, special mission, and May 18 Democratic Movement merit recipients, as well as patients with Agent Orange aftereffects (grade-assessed). One senior surviving family member holding a bereaved family certificate is also included.
National veterans receive a monthly veterans honor allowance of 30,000 KRW and consolation money of 20,000 KRW three times a year.
If a national veteran who has lived in the area for more than one year passes away, the bereaved family can apply within one year to receive 200,000 KRW in condolence money. Additionally, if the bereaved family applies during the funeral period, funeral directors are dispatched within Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi areas, and Guro-gu provides funeral wreaths and convenience kits for the bereaved family.
To this end, Guro-gu signed a business agreement in February with the Seoul Southern Veterans Office to support funeral supplies for national veterans.
Furthermore, veterans aged 65 or older who have lived in Seoul for more than one month receive a monthly honor allowance, and low-income national veterans and senior surviving family members receive a monthly living assistance allowance of 100,000 KRW.
Also, children and grandchildren of independence merit recipients facing financial difficulties receive a monthly independence merit living support allowance of 200,000 KRW.
